After a couple of nights near Gib our next task was to find somewhere to stay for a few days to celebrate Paul’s 50^th Birthday. As his birthday falls on the 15^th March for 8 or so years he’s always spent it working at the Ideal Home show in London. This year not only did he have the opportunity to celebrate in another country as it’s a special birthday he wanted to ensure he celebrated fully. Having searched the net we had located a parking area at Cala de Mijas and so headed towards it, unfortunately as we didn’t have the co-ordinates we managed to sail straight past only realising once it was too late. We followed the road further along the coast with the intention of turning around, but spotted a couple of other MH’s parked near the beach at Fuengirolla (a place neither of us had visited previously). The location was spot on though so we decided to pull over. Almost immediately we were approached by another English couple Ian and Julia who were parked nearby, as we stood chatting through the window Ian recognised us from our blog and so out we hopped and got acquainted. Seven months into a year tour they are much more experienced than us and over the following days we learnt lots from them.

By now though we’ve probably forgotten most of it as we got to know them fairly well during our four night stay (which involved lots of alcohol) and they probably know us now better than we know ourselves. Fuengirola is a sprawling tourist town which has every type of food restaurant desired. On the one night we did go out whilst there after watching England win at Rugby we headed off for an Indian in true British style (our 1^st since leaving home).  Our days there were spent exploring on bikes or chilling for a few hours on the beach, our evenings before the big day with Ian and Jules either in Boris or Geronimo (there vans name) getting acquainted whilst sampling local wine.

As the beach was set up for using BBQ’s as an ever dedicated king of barbequing Paul decided that we should celebrate his birthday doing just that. A bottle of Bollinger which my sister Melanie and bro in law Craig had bought us several Christmases ago needed an occasion so was duly chilled ready for birthday celebrations. Although the weather was a little overcast we headed to the beach for around 2pm the 4 of us carrying food, chairs, booze, ice buckets, music and bbq’s for the big celebrations. And celebrate in style we did finally returning to our respective homes around 11pm with the boys more than a little worse for wear. Paul had said he wanted to celebrate in style and that’s just what it did. Thanks Jules and Ian for making the day extra special. Until next time you guys ……. A quiet day of recovery now needed!
