9th – 13th June 2016
Weather a mixed bag of cloud sun, thunderstorms and humidity with temps of early to mid 20’s
We are getting very excited and a little impatient for our impending visitors to arrive we headed for our campsite at Lloret De Mar which was another ACSI site Camping Tucan (n41 4150 E2 4919). We had chosen this resort based on Aleyah (Pauls 9 year old granddaughters) request to go to a water park when coming to visit us in Spain. Knowing that Lloret was a large resort with a water park just out of town and two airports nearby we thought it would be ideal. It was to be Holly (Pauls daughter) and Aleyahs 1st trip abroad on their own so it was a big deal for them. With a toddler at home being looked after by her Nanny they could only come for a long weekend so we needed to pack it in.
The campsite was perfect and without doubt the best we have stayed on so far. The facilities are spotlessly clean. The paths and pitches swept of leaves daily. The pool area is better than most 4* hotels with a great safe kids area and a huge main pool and 2 water slides to get us in the mood for our day at the water park. Lloret is a large resort and the campsite is on the very edge of town so Holly had to choose her hotel carefully to ensure she wasn’t too far away.
After setting up camp we hopped on our bikes and went off in search for the Savoy hotel where the girls would be staying. It was located right around the corner from one of the towns beaches fenals and around a 15 minute walk from our site. After sending some pics back home to the girls we carried on to the main beach area and the old town of Lloret. Although I had some recognition when visiting Calella I couldn’t say the same for Lloret. For me it seems to lack some of the charm and is still like the Costa Brava of old with tourist shops galore all selling the same things! The beach is dotted with bars selling the hugest beers and cocktails we’ve ever seen which are not only grossly oversized but also grossly overpriced. The town itself is lined with bars and restaurants attracting large gatherings of stag and hen doo’s. Although we ordinarily would not choose this type of resort we knew it would be perfect for our few days with the girls as there would be lots to keep them entertained.
Lloret De Mar – Main beach and Fenal beach and the biggest beers and cocktails EVER!
Their flight wasn’t due to land until 9.30pm the following day so we thought by the time they got from the airport it would be too late to meet up so we arranged to meet up the following morning instead. We occupied ourselves snorkelling at the local beach for the morning and getting acquainted with the area. Although we knew they were safely on the flight, when they arrived in Spain Holly’s phone wouldn’t allow her to communicate so Paul and I spent a rather sleepless night worrying whether they had got to their hotel safely.
The 3 days they were here have been so special with all of us saying how nice it’s been to get quality time with each other in an environment where we can all have fun. As well as shopping we spent time at the pools and had a fabulous day at Water World where Aleyah surprised us all and went on Speed Furious a shoot where the floor drops away and you travel at 70 KM per hour to the bottom. She was certainly braver than me. Our evenings allowed us to relax over a meal or BBQ at our campsite and enjoy each other’s company whilst sharing a few drinks!
Quality time together with Holly & Aleyah that we will treasure forever
We were sad to see them go this morning but are so gratefully that we got these few very special days together. Thanks Holly and Aleyah for making our weekend extra special. We love you both lots and will treasure our memories and photos of our time together, but have to admit we need a chill out day to recover now!!!
Until next time you two.
